About Deck & Deep
Deck & Deep publishes buying guides for residential pool equipment, written for owners in Texas and other hot, hard-water climates.
Why this site exists
Most pool equipment reviews are written as if every pool sits in mild weather with soft water and no trees. Texas pools deal with long, hot seasons that push chlorine demand up, fill water that is often hard enough to scale salt cells and heaters, heavy leaf and pollen loads, and the occasional hard freeze. We write with those conditions in mind.
We also spell out the part shoppers tend to find out too late: where and how you buy a pump, heater or salt system can change the manufacturer's warranty. That gets its own guide, and it shows up in every product recommendation.
The editor
Allison Landzt, Editor
Allison Landzt is the editorial name used for this site. The editor researches and writes each guide, keeps the "last checked" dates current, and decides what gets recommended.
To be clear about what that byline does and doesn't mean: the editor does not claim to have personally owned, installed, serviced or hands-on tested the products reviewed here. Guides are built from manufacturer specifications, owner's manuals and published warranty terms. The illustration is a monogram, not a photo.
What we promise
- Every product guide is labeled research-based unless we actually tested the product. At launch, nothing on this site is labeled hands-on tested.
- No invented test results, measurements, anecdotes or customer stories.
- Prices are shown as ranges with a "check current price" link, because pool equipment prices move constantly.
- We cite the manufacturer pages and documents we used at the bottom of every guide.
- Affiliate commissions never decide what we recommend. See our affiliate disclosure.
